Chelsea Flower Show 2023 - RHS Royal Contemplation & Celebration Garden
Project Description
Dave Green Gardens were asked to design and create a garden at the 2023 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, in guest King Charles’ honour that also celebrated the late Queen Elizabeth II. The garden was situated in the Rock Garden bank area of the Chelsea flower show, traditionally one of the oldest parts of the event for show gardens.
The RHS Royal Contemplation and Celebration Garden was designed to create a tranquil and calm space with enclosure provided on three sides by hedging. The design aimed to install a sense of calm and reflection about the monarchy.
In the centre of the space a circular lawn is framed by a curved bench made from British-grown and sustainably sourced larch timber. The seat area is set among light pink and white planting that is based on the planting preferences of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Further to the front of the garden the planting colours are blues and purples as the planting choices change to reflect the King’s preferences.
The garden featured several trees to bring a woodland feel to the space as well as many more traditional garden plants such as roses, peonies and irises.
The garden featured in several publications including the following:
